We have been talking a lot about our couples from last year in our latest posts. So, I thought, it would be nice to take a break and do something different.
One of the questions we, as wedding planners and designers, always get asked is which venues we are at the most. To be honest…if I were to put together all of the venues we have worked at we would be here all day.
Do we have any favorites? Heck yes we do! Actually…we have quite a few.
In this post, Maria and I are discussing our top 5 outdoor venues (so far!) from the past few years.

Is it really a surprise that this is the first venue we have chosen to talk about? We are here SO often every year, and each wedding is just as stunning as the next. We love the natural charm and style is has all on its own – oceanside, city line, mountain views, gardens, and a big lawn space – it checks off all the boxes for an authentic Vancouver-style PNW wedding!
The outdoor ceremony space that comes along with the rental of the tented reception area is perhaps one of the most iconic features. A gigantic tree, overlooking the incredible views, is a statement that shows up in so many photos. Who wouldn’t want that in their wedding photos?
It’s an all-inclusive style space, where everything you need is at your fingertips. They have a tented outdoor reception space that is complete with built in chandeliers, lights, and heaters. They have white folding chairs for the ceremony and dark chiavari chairs for the reception. No need for additional rentals here!
Oh and those incredible sunset beach photos? They are right next door to Jericho beach…perfect for a quick photo op while your guests are happily eating and drinking away!

In our eyes, this location is understated and deserves its time to shine! It is on the other end of the spectrum in comparison to our last venue as it is more of a gorgeous blank canvas. Personally…I think we need more of these, especially in Vancouver!
Located in the UBC area, the Museum of Anthropology is close enough to the core of the city without being too far away, and it is surrounded by SO much to do and see. As per the venue itself, the rental includes access to the grounds outside of the museum, which is beautifully covered with native grasses, plants and trees. There are multiple areas you can setup your ceremony – from the shell beach among the totem poles, to the grassy hill top overlooking the pond and the stunning museum – before heading over to the great lawn for your tented reception space.
You can bring in what you need to create your own unique look and design, with the option to additionally rent out the access to indoor washrooms and private after hours viewing of the exhibits!

Want a beautiful tented reception, overlooking a vast lawn and sparkling lake…but don’t want to drive too far out of the city? If so, this is the venue for you!
Every year, Hart House sets up a temporary tented space (complete with solid flooring) off of their main house for the summer. Their giant lawn space, surrounded by tall trees, is the perfect spot for an outdoor ceremony, cocktails and lawn games. The different setups and layouts are endless, providing the perfect amount of flexibility in your own ideas.
Hart House is located in a central and easily accessible part of Burnaby, tucked away enough to feel like you are ducking away from the hustle and bustle of the city without being too far away.

What can I say? We love grand, historical architecture that simply radiates elegance an class! So, it’s no surprise that, like so many of our clients, we fall in love with Hycroft Manor over and over again.
This Edwardian mansion, built in the early 20th century, was purchased by the University Womens Club and restored to its finest, traditional look that we see now. Its gardens are beautifully manicured – providing a gorgeous garden space for an outdoor ceremony and cocktail mingling. Alternatively, if getting married directly on the grass isn’t your thing, they have a breathtaking terrace that overlooks all of Vancouver, plus the covered outdoor space with the tall, dramatic pillars. The amount of photography locations at this venue are endless!
The distinctive and covered outdoor space is the perfect, swoon-worthy reception space…getting all the best of the fresh outdoor air while being completely covered. Especially with Vancouver weather, this is the perfect venue to have the best of both worlds.

Much like Hycroft, Cecil Green Park House has very similar qualities with its al fresco vibes. This mansion is another prominent and historical building, located in the UBC area, and was donated to the campus specifically for special events of all classes.
The large lawn space, surrounded by lavish trees, bushes, and gardens, makes for the perfect base for ceremonies, lawn games, and cocktail hours. The background possibilities range from having the house as the backdrop to a gorgeous garden for any ceremony.
Cecil Green Park House has a wonderful covered terrace that is perfect for outside dining…whether it be round tables or long, intimate harvest tables. Have a higher guest count? Move your dining inside for the extra space without sacrificing your outdoor elements! (We love this, especially with, once again, how finicky Vancouver weather can be). To polish off the day, keep the party going by dancing inside so the residents in the neighborhood aren’t bothered! Stay tuned for our next blog on our favorite indoor wedding venues…you may see a little more about Cecil Green in that one!
We believe that, looking through our history, an honorable mention goes towards any private residence that we have had the privilege of working with. It’s intimate and unique to create a wedding or event in a private home or backyard; some of our fondest memories have been transforming everyday personal spaces and gorgeous gardens into thriving, Insta-worthy events. If you have the space, or you think it may have potential, ask us to come out for a visit and we can help draw a better picture as to what your space could become for the day!
For the record, it was hard choosing just 5 – there are so many gorgeous venues here in Vancouver, and all across BC (the wineries alone deserve their own post in the future…). We look forward to working with more gorgeous outdoor venues this year for the first time…and can’t wait to work with some venues still on our wishlist!
