Valentine’s Day is coming up…aside from Christmas season (congrats to the newly engaged out there!), this is the second biggest time of the year to propose to your sweetheart. This day just oozes love and romance, and a well-planned proposal can make a powerful statement – whether that proposal is big or small!
Here are our top tips and tricks to help you put together the most romantic proposal, and will ensure that they will tell their family, friends, and coworkers about it for years to come!
Really listen to what your partner wants, even if you have to read between the lines and be a detective if they don’t say it outright. Are they a private or social person? This could mean a huge difference between proposing in a public setting like a restaurant or at home after a date night out. Stalk their Pinterest if you can – this can give many hints as to what they like!
Do your homework, but clear your cache! This is important! You may be researching rings, real proposals, romantic locations (which is all great!) but just remember to fully clear your browsing history. Keep any saved photos in an online file, instead of your phones photo stream. This is especially important for all Apple product users out there who can access the same cloud! With all of these practices in place, they won’t catch on to you acting weird with your phone or computer.
Keep the surprise, well, a surprise! Only tell the necessary people, to limit the risk of too many people acting ‘off’ the day you plan on proposing. If you are bad at keeping secrets, and worried your nerves will get to you, do it sooner rather than later. You can always use Valentine’s Day as a reason to celebrate your new engagement instead!
Make any reservations or bookings as soon as possible. Get those plans set in stone, don’t procrastinate! There is nothing worse than spending all this time planning something, but not booking key things early enough. If it does happen, don’t let it throw you off your game – just roll with it and no matter what, the proposal is going to be amazing.
Use cash or separate credit card to pay for things. If your loved one has access to the same accounts as you, they will notice any weird transactions. Use cash when possible, or even ask friend to use their card and pay them back.
Propose with a fake ring, if needed. This is highly recommended for proposals involving water, heights, or any chance of accidentally dropping the ring in the nerves of the moment. If you would rather them pick out their own ring after the proposal, a fake ring can be handy for the photos of the moment! Wow them with a few appointments at the jewelers after the proposal to pick out the real deal.
Hire a professional. Need some help? Hire a proposal planner to bring your grand idea to life, or help you come up with a concept and make it happen. Having a professional around to ease the pressure is priceless – we make sure everything is setup and you are prepared with everything you need. All you just have to show up and pop the question. Even scheduling a meeting to talk in person to get some guidance or advice can make the world of difference!
If you can’t afford a professional, hire a friend. Have someone you can 100% trust to help you make sure everything is setup and ready for you. Make sure they are naturally prompt and organized!!
Hire a secret photographer or setup a hidden camera. Get the moment on photo or video – this moment can only be captured once! We can’t stress this point enough.
The importance of a fresh manicure…Well-groomed nails for a proposal are a dream, and we have heard from so many friends how much they would love it if their future fiancé would plan this for them before popping the question. However, unless you already book them regular surprise manicures or they get their nails done on a regular basis…booking them a ‘surprise’ nail appointment is a big give away that something is out of the ordinary. A simple fix? Ask a friend to take them out for a scheduled manicure instead so it doesn’t look like you are involved – this is a great alternative if they really want their nails done without the element of surprise being broken.
